At The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust we can provide opportunities to work in primary care (both GP practice and CCG Teams) and secondary care as well as community services and covid-19 services.

If you are looking for a varied role across any or all of these areas we invite you to join our Pharmacy Bank team to work on a sessional basis.

In particular we are looking for prescribers to support regular sessions in our CMDU (covid-19 medicine delivery unit). We also have opportunities in the hospital, primary care and community services.

Main duties of the job

Prescribing Support Team - BCICB Team

To promote effective medicines optimisation, providing education and
training for healthcare professionals and enabling patients to get more from their medicines.

To undertake and develop clinical audits to promote best prescribing practice in line with local and national clinical guidelines and safety advice.

We are one of the largest acute and community providers in the West Midlands having more than 850 beds on the New Cross site.

We also have 56 rehabilitation beds at West Park Hospital and 54 beds at Cannock Chase Hospital.

We provide services from the following locations;

  • New Cross Hospital - Secondary and Tertiary Services, Maternity, Accident and Emergency, Critical Care and Outpatients
  • West Park Hospital - Rehabilitation Inpatient and Day Care Services, Therapy Services and Outpatients
  • Cannock Chase Hospital - General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Breast Surgery, Urology, Dermatology/Plastic Surgery and Medical Day Case Investigations and Treatment (including Endoscopy, Rheumatology and Dermatology)
  • More than 20 community sites - Community Services for Children and Adults, Walk-in Centres and Therapy and Rehabilitation Services
  • Primary care - Eight GP practices have now joined us and offer extended opening hours to patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Depending on your experience and the roles available you could work in one, or all areas.

Job Descriptions are available but in summary you would:

CMDU

To provide clinical cover to the Covid Medicines Delivery Unit (CMDU),
including clinical assessment of patients and prescribing appropriate antiviral/neutralising monoclonal antibody treatment.

To ensure that developments in the delivery of the clinical pharmacy service to patients who are treated within the CMDU are in line with the strategic
direction for the development of clinical pharmacy services within the Trust.

To support the principal pharmacists with reviewing and updating the Trust Covid guidance.

To work under the supervision of the RWT principal pharmacists

Primary Care

To develop and deliver patient facing services and clinics which improve
patient outcomes, reflect the needs of the practice population and shift
workload from other disciplines

Support the delivery of the clinical medicines elements of QOF, IIF and
incentive scheme objectives through patient review and clinical interventions.

Primary Care - CCG Team

To achieve a pattern of prescribing in primary care that maximises cost
effectiveness and minimises risk, while delivering the specifications of the SLA with Wolverhampton CCG

To promote effective medicines optimisation, providing education and
training for healthcare professionals and enabling patients to get more from their medicines.

To undertake and develop clinical audits to promote best prescribing practice in line with local and national clinical guidelines and safety advice.

To clinically assess, diagnose and prescribe for complex or highly-complex
patients to deliver high quality patient care using cost-effective evidence based treatments

Community Services

Support the principal pharmacist to deliver prescribing and medicines advice for virtual wards, anti-coagulation services, community nursing and rapid intervention teams.

Hospital

Support the principal pharmacist to provide clinical ward support across the hospital. This could be to support a specific clinical area such as paediatrics or diabetes or provide a flexible support to cover holidays across any area.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MSc Pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Registered with GPhC
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Diploma (or equivalent experience)
  • Independent Prescriber
