Job overview

Due to expansion of services an exciting opportunity has arisen for the creation of a new band 7 Speech and Language Therapist role.

We are looking for a passionate, autonomous and highly driven Band 7 speech and Language therapist to join the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit ( INRU) and the Stroke Rehabilitation teams at Moseley Hall hospital

Experience of working with adults with complex acquired disorders of communication and swallowing, relating to Neurology/Stroke is essential.    Competences in tracheostomy management are preferred; however, in house training can be supported to facilitate these skills if required.  You will be joining at a very exciting time, as we are in the process of setting up our FEES service.

Main duties of the job

This position is 30 hours per week based in the inpatient neuro rehabilitation services at Moseley Hall Hospital.

The post holder will work as part of a supportive interdisciplinary team including administrative staff, speech & language therapists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses and skilled support staff. Excellent training and development opportunities are available, with well established team meetings and CPD activities, as well as a robust supervision and appraisal system.

As part of this role you will take a lead providing highly specialist assessment and intervention  for patients with complex neurological impairments as a result of acquired brain injury and stroke. You will provide support to junior team members to develop their skills working with patients with complex communication and swallowing impairments including tracheostomy management and FEES assessment.

You will have keyworker responsibility for some of the patients, therefore excellent communication skills and flexibility is essential. You will line manage and provide supervision to more junior speech and language therapists, students and support staff/assistants.
