North Bristol Trust is looking for a 12 month fixed term Clinical fellow in Perioperative Geriatric Medicine & Geriatric Major Trauma
The post would suit trainees in Geriatric or Acute General Medicine seeking to broaden their perioperative medicine experience. Alternatively, applications would be welcomed from candidates able to perform at senior clinical fellow grade who are in possession of full MRCP(UK) or equivalent international qualification.
The post holder will be supervised in every aspect of their role by substantive consultants (listed below) working in Perioperative Geriatric Medicine. The post holder will not routinely participate in unselected medical admissions during their fellowship, unless specific training needs are required (subject to agreement).
Main duties of the job
The appointee(s) will:
• Support a shared model of trauma care for older patients admitted with pelvic, long bone, spinal, thoracic, abdominal or head trauma. Provide proactive comprehensive geriatric assessment of older people sustaining trauma, and/or undergoing surgery.
• Provide urgent clinical assessment and management in sick, high-risk patients.
• Communicate closely with trauma, surgical and anaesthetic colleagues.
• Support multidisciplinary working in trauma and surgical MDMs, clinics and wards.
• Train health care professionals in trauma and surgery services with emphasis on medical comorbidity management
• Develop patient pathways and liaison services.
• Evaluate service development work (may include patient consent, data handling)
• Take part in research and quality improvement programmes.
• Participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training across disciplines and specialties.

Essential and Desirable
Essential criteria
- Ability to fulfil the duties of the post and perform at level of medical ST3+
- Proven teaching ability
- Good written and oral communication skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
- Experience in audit project and written up
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues
- Knowledge of political context within which we operate
Desirable criteria
- MRCP(UK) or MRCPI Valid Advanced Life Support Certification Maintain Full registration with the GMC
- Recent experience and familiarity with UK or Ireland hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 4 years postgraduate experience in an approved training post, or equivalent
- Adequate training and experience in diagnosis and treatment of acute and general medical conditions
- Evidence of recent CME and training progression at this stage of career
- Experience in conducting and writing up quality improvement projects

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
