 An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Breast Care Centre for a Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist working with our team of four Breast Care Nurses to support patients throughout the assessment process after screening mammography, providing specialist information, advice and psychological support relating to breast disease both malignant and benign.  The screening service hosted by North Bristol NHS Trust is one of the largest breast screening programmes in the country inviting over 45,000 people a year for routine breast screening, detecting approximately 450 breast cancers a year before they are too small to see or feel - saving lives through early detection.  You will join a large multi-disciplinary team delivering this incredible service.

To provide leadership and management to the screening nurses team and to act as a role model and mentor for junior colleagues.

 To lead on the provision of a comprehensive health promotion strategy to optimise the uptake of the breast screening programme.

 To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.

 To support patients through out the assessment process after screening mammography, providing specialist information, advice and psychological support relating to breast disease both malignant and benign.

 To provide a high quality, accurate expected benign results service

 To provide a high-quality Specialist Nursing Service and to be the first point of clinical contact to women participating in the NHS National Breast Screening Programme and others as appropriate.

 To work as an integral member of the multi-professional team and participate in weekly MDT meetings.

 To establish clear lines of communication within the speciality team, to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of clients.

 To participate in teaching and research connected with the breast screening programme.

  • The CNS works as a core member of the multidisciplinary team in the screening unit and provides specialist nursing advice, education and support to women and their families.
  • The CNS works according to the National Guidelines for the CNS in breast screening.
  • The CNS is a professional resource for colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • The CNS reviews and contributes to the development of new procedures and policies, facilitating developments in evidenced based nursing
  • The CNS is responsible for evaluation and auditing the nursing service and satisfaction surveys in line with the quality insurance of the CNS in breast screening
  • The role of the Breast Care Specialist Nurse covers five main areas: Clinical; Managerial; Educational ; Evidence Based Research ; Audit

  • RGN Level 1Registered Nurse Degree ((BSc) or equivalent in a health related subject
  • Specialist Breast Care Course at level 6 or 7
  • Advanced Communications Course
  • 5 years post registration experience with at least 2 of these at a band 6
  • Clinical experience of working with women with breast cancer Application Form, Interview
  • Experience of delivering presentations and teaching
  • Excellent communication / interpersonal skills Reliable and capable of working with confidential and sensitive information
