Job overview
Bristol as the Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC) for the Southwest region provides and coordinates specialist care/advice to over 290 adults with Sickle cell, Thalassaemia and Rare anaemias. We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to provide educational opportunities to all staffing groups involved in the care of individuals with a Haemoglobinopathy disorder. The role will focus of providing evidenced based and best practice education and learning opportunities to ward staff including ED and ITU, local GP surgeries and regional hospitals within the Southwest.
They will also work collaboratively with the Adult Acute pain service to deliver specialist pain management care to individuals admitted with a severe painful sickle cell crisis. The aim is to ensure patients receive optimal pain management and care. You will act as the first point of contact for ward staff and the Acute pain service. The role will involve teaching and assessing competencies relating to complex analgesia techniques, maintain competencies through the use and design of innovative learning opportunities and educate the wider clinical team. They will maintain accurate records for the purpose of evaluating pain management outcomes, feedback and service improvement.

- Contribute towards sharing good practice within the multidisciplinary team.
- Create a suitable environment where effective learning can take place and that individual learning needs are identified in relation to education.
- Educate a diverse group of healthcare professionals and providers to ensure that patients receive a high quality of clinical care, that fosters good patient experience and gives regard to their religious belief, culture and doctrines.
- Ensure that own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge and evidence base practice.
- Act as a resource for education and clinical expertise in hospital and the community.
- Maintain own knowledge of Haemoglobinopathies care, treatments and pain management to provide effective educational support.
- Support staff members in enabling learning to develop best practice through research, education, audits and learning from incidents
- Maintain accurate records of training undertaken by members of staff
- Assess current learning and training needs across services, network sites and work with the HCC team to develop and ensure relevant clinical based learning programmes and resources are of the appropriate standard.
