Job overview

The job purpose is to work as part of a team supporting patients to make informed choices about their own sexual health, including preventing and managing sexually transmitted infections, contraception and other clinical sexual health care. The post-holder will provide a LARC list based at South Bristol Community Hospital and provide medical cover and advice to the Pregnancy Advisory Service. The successful applicant will work 1 in 7 Saturday mornings at Central Health Clinic and may also be required
to work at other Unity Sexual Health clinic sites including the community and Weston Integrated Sexual Heath (WISH).

Main duties of the job

This post is for a part time 2.5 PA Locum Consultant or Specialty Doctor in Sexual and Reproductive Health. The post-holder will contribute to delivering integrated sexual health care, within Unity Sexual
Health services, based at Central Health Clinic, Tower Hill Bristol BS2 OJD. Unity Sexual Health was formed in June 2017 following UH Bristol winning the tender to deliver sexual health services across
Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The position is open to those who meet the Person Specification as a Locum Consultant or Specialty Doctor.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of and compliance with child and adult safeguarding procedures
  • Experience in the management of children and young people who have experienced maltreatment including child abuse, domestic abuse, honour based violence
  • Experience in any of the following areas: Gynaecology, Genito-Urinary medicine Reproductive & Sexual Health/contraceptive provision, clinical Forensic Medicine, A&E, psychiatry, general practice
  • Previous involvement with Strategy discussions/ meetings, multi-agency discussions
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in the clinical care and management of children or young people who have been sexually abused
  • Previous Court attendances as a professional witness

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Meets professional health requirements
  • Willingness to travel to and work in other sites necessitated by the role
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching skills course/ formal teaching qualification
  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching
  • Car plus license to drive

Additional and Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC with a license to practice
  • Medical Indemnity (MPS/MDU/MDDUS)
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
  • Positive approach to evidence based practice and evidence of this
  • Participation in continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Awareness of personal limitations and the importance of self-care
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of sexual health, child health or the safeguarding of adults and children
  • Good clinical practise accreditation
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports or peer reviewed research papers

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registerable medical qualification (MBChB or equivalent)
  • CCT in paediatrics or other highly relevant speciality e.g paediatric emergency medicine or within 3 months of CCT at the point of interview
  • Level 3 safeguarding training
Desirable criteria
  • Other relevant qualification (e.g.MRCPCH, DCH, FRCEM, MSc, MFFLM, LLFLM (SOE) BSc or DFSRH)
