Job overview

Are you an organised, proactive, and compassionate individual? We are looking for a Medical Secretary to join our dedicated team in the Dermatology at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust Amersham site. This role is essential to supporting clinicians and ensuring a smooth patient experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality secretarial support, including managing correspondence, emails, and appointment bookings.
  • Maintain patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in line with NHS policies.
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals, patients, and families to coordinate and manage clinical schedules.
  • Handle patient queries professionally and sensitively, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
  • Prepare documents, reports, and meeting minutes, supporting the team with all administrative needs.
  • Maintain databases and patient management systems, ensuring timely updates and data accuracy.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary Team to support innovative services and improved patient care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Grade C or above/equivalent in English Language
  • RSA II Typing, or equivalent
  • Medical Secretarial Course/ Medical Terminology Course, or ability to demonstrate equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a Medical Secretary
  • Experience of working in a similar setting within The NHS
  • Experience of word processing
  • Experience of audio-typing
  • Experience of working with highly confidential data
  • Previous supervisory experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Minute taking
  • Experience of working with rotas

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Good written skills, to enable liaison with staff at all levels
  • Ability to work on own initiative and make judgements and decisions to resolve problems and queries
  • Possess skills necessary to work as a Team player
  • Knowledge of GDPR Regulations (ability to maintain patient confidentiality)
  • Able to deal politely, patiently and sensitively with public, and patients and their relatives
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Trust Information Systems, e.g. Medway
  • Knowledge of Trust policies and procedures
