Job overview
Amersham Hospital is a large community hospital for outpatients, therapy and community-based services. It also includes a large dermatology (skin) department, and the Buckinghamshire Neurorehabilitation Unit for people with neurological and rehabilitation needs.
Radiology is a small and friendly team providing plain film imaging for GPs and Out-patients. DEXA scanning and dental imaging. We have recently installed two Xograph DR x-ray rooms. We also have a DR dental unit with Cone Beam CT capabilities and a Hologic Horizon W DEXA scanner.
There is an opportunity to rotate to our acute site at Stoke Mandeville Hospital if desired and to participate in the night and weekend rota.
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder would be expected to rotate through plain film, including dental and DEXA , with training being provided where necessary. You will provide high quality diagnostic imaging for the service users.
You would be expected to ensure smooth running of the daily service, liaising with the bookings team and vetting imaging requests where necessary. You will provide training and supervision to junior Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and students.
If you chose to rotate to Stoke Mandeville there are opportunities to be trained and rotate through CT, MRI and/ or fluoroscopy based on departmental needs.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in Radiography
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of recent CPD and relevant short courses
Desirable criteria
- Post Graduate Certificate
Skills, abilities and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ionising Radiation Legislation
- Manual handling skills
- Clear concise oral and written communication skills in order to deal with a range of staff/ patients and provide written reports.
- Ability to develop protocols for clinical imaging
- Knowledge of Health & Safety issues
- Ability to deal with difficult situations, complaints, aggressive behaviour
- Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team
- Computer literate
- Keyboard skills

- Appraisal and objective setting
- Organisational skills
Experience
Essential criteria
- 2-3 years’ experience in Radiography
- Experience in Dexa scanning.
- Supervision and training of junior colleagues
- Experience of Quality Assurance or up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and Risk Assessment issues.
- Experience in Dental imaging and Cone Beam CT
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience

- Travel to other sites if required
