Job overview

Applicants are invited to join the team of committed staff at the Day Nurseries at Amersham & Wycombe Hospital to support the children in the nursery or at the Department’s ‘Out of School’ facility, including after school club and school holiday Play Schemes.

The department provides care and education for children ranging from babies to 11yrs offering a varied range of activities indoors and out, including sports and games, creativity, music, cookery and imaginative play.

This position would suit candidates who are studying for A-levels, Early Years Childcare or Teaching.  The hours are predominately after school until 6pm and during school holidays.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide suitable and varied activities for children attending the scheme both indoors and outside. 
  • To join in, as well as supervising the play activities for the children.
  • To be involved with the setting up and clearing up of daily activities, ensuring that any activity is put away complete.
  • To be aware of health and safety issues at all times and report any causes for concern either to the scheme supervisor or line manager.
  • To be responsible for the economic use of consumable materials provided
  • To support with drinks and meal times, and kitchen duties

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • University student training for teaching
  • School student studying for A’level qualifications
  • Good grades at GCSE i.e. A - C

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Some experience with working with children e.g. helping at clubs such as Brownies/Cubs; Lighthouse holiday schemes; crèche; Sunday school etc.

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Good communication skills including written work
  • An interest in extra-curricular activities e.g. sports, arts and crafts, drama & music
