Specialist - SDEC & CMDU

NHS Medical & Dental: Specialist Grade

Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative Specialist Doctor in Same Day Emergency Care to join our team! This is a brand-new role, created following the SAS contract reform in 2021. The post holder will need to demonstrate the generic capabilities laid out in the framework for the new Specialist grade. You may have a background in Emergency or Acute Medicine, but will have had experience of working in a SDEC setting seeing undifferentiated patients. In addition you will be expected to take over running the Covid Medicines Delivery Unit.

There are exciting opportunities to grow your leadership skills in this role and we would love to hear from you if you fit the role profile.

Main duties of the job

We are expecting the post-holder to take an active part in the development of this service and to help drive SDEC and Ambulatory care forward. The successful applicants will also have to take ownership and delivery of the Covid Medicines Delivery Unit including triage of referrals and selecting appropriate patients for therapy.

Our services are clinically led and the post-holder will be expected to develop a close working relationship with other teams and ICP partners to ensure that services are responsive, innovative and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards.

There is scope for flexible working, and we are keen to support a good work-life balance and Additional Programmed Activities. The current Consultants work a standard 10 PA job plan which includes A varying PA split between Direct Clinical Care and Supporting Professional Activities. Weekend frequency is 1 in 6. On-call frequency is 1 in 7 weekdays and 1 in 12 weekends. Out of hours Pas are calculated at 3 hours per PA. On-call is from 10.30 pm – 0800 am and attracts 1 PA. On call supplement is paid at Category A.

We have 3 shifts during the course of the day. 1x 08-18, 1x 13-2130 and 1 x 15.30-2230 and on call during weekdays (shifts will change as our consultant numbers increase to support better work/life balance). During weekends, 1 x 0800-1700, 1x 1500 – 2230 and on call.
