This is a really exciting time to join us in Specialist Services at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.  Based on feedback from the people who work with us and the people we care for. This particular role is an exciting opportunity for a band 7 Lead Transfusion Practitioner providing Trust wide specialist transfusion advice and training and is suitable for either a Biomedical scientist or Nurse with relevant experience and knowledge.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals and groups, be dynamic, highly motivated, conscientious and be able to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
  • To lead in the investigation of Transfusion Adverse incidents occurring outside the laboratory, providing corrective education where appropriate and reporting to the Hospital Team
  • The role will involve teaching safe and appropriate blood transfusion practice to a wide range of staff and to lead on the implementation of  authorising (prescribing) blood products in accordance to the group directive  BCSH guidelines 2014, as well as performing regular audits.
  • To provide expert advice to colleagues on blood transfusion issues and will be responsible for investigating adverse blood transfusion incidents and haemovigilance reporting to SABRE/SHOT and will be a crucial member of the transfusion committee.
  • To report clinical incidents to the Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT) Scheme and Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority Serious Adverse Blood Reaction and Events (SABRE) scheme, after consultation with the Consultant Haematologist with responsibility for Transfusion Medicine and the Transfusion Service Lead Biomedical Scientist Haematology & Transfusion.

  • This post suitable for an NMC registered nurse.
  • Registered with NMC or MSC in Transfusion
  • Graduate in Nursing or equivalent knowledge.
  • Experience equivalent to Masters Degree level nursing
  • Non-medical authorisers of blood products (prescriber) course or willing to undertake

  • Haematology Specialist Nursing Module
  • Teaching Qualification (ENB 998) or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

  • An excellent understanding of Transfusion Medicine
  • Sound Knowledge of clinical theory
  • Sound knowledge of current nursing and healthcare issues relating to Transfusion Practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to work effectively in both a small team and alone using initiative
  • Excellent facilitator and presentation skills
