Job overview

The Director of Capital Development is a pivotal member of the senior leadership team and will be required to lead a team of both in-house professionals and external consultants to successfully manage the capital portfolio inclusive of strategic estates planning, capital delivery, space and design standards. 

We are looking for an inclusive leader who will foster an inclusive and supportive culture that makes working for Buckinghamshire Healthcare a positive experience for everyone.

The postholder will be a construction professional (RIBA, RICS, CIOB, ICE or similar) with considerable post qualification and project management experience and an ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of development and project delivery in the acute healthcare sector or similar service environment.

Main duties of the job

As an established leader, the Director of Capital Development will have vision and the ability to engage with key individuals at the most senior level both internally and externally.  You will have the communication skills to influence and gain trust through a values driven approach, whilst developing, leading and delivering the estates strategy and capital programme.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Chartered Construction professional RICS, RIBA, C Eng, ARB, CIOB or similar
  • Masters in relevant technical or management field or equivalent experience
  • Degree/Diploma in line with key competencies in construction and contract management
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Postgraduate Management qualification
  • Diploma/Qualification in Project Management

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience post professional registration (RICS, RIBA etc) or similar demonstrable experience
  • Experience in management of acute healthcare in a senior capacity for relevant period of time
  • Experience of developing and managing senior capital and estates management professionals
  • Experience of strategic and operational stages of project development & management
  • Experience in people management to include external construction consultancy professionals
  • Track record of delivery to tight deadlines

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Ability to deal with highly complex and situations that on occasions will require conflict resolution skills
  • Analytical and technical skill to produce coherent, comprehensive and concise reports that achieve their purpose first time
  • Ability to organise workload and manage outcomes to meet planned objectives
  • Ability to Chair and/or to serve on Project Boards, User Groups and/or Committees
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of complex construction/building services installations to include consideration of whole life costs
  • Fully competent in the use of modern office, financial and database software applications
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of MICAD and Autocad
