Job overview
The post holder will be required to work as part of a team providing a booking service to the cardiology department. This requires close liaison with consultants, patients, medical and nursing staff, physiologists and managers.
This is a multi-skilled and busy role with frequent requirements for concentration, where the work pattern can be unpredictable with regular interruptions. Handling of complex and sensitive information and the need for confidentiality is integral to the post. The post holder will require a working knowledge of IT systems, in addition to knowledge specific to Cardiology. The role will include booking patients for outpatient clinics, diagnostic tests and handling GP, BHT clinician and patient queries. The post holder will be expected to work without direct supervision and will be expected to liaise and communicate as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
To deal professionally with patient queries in line with guidance from the Trust’s Access Policy using tact and persuasive skills.
To be responsible for accurate input of confidential data onto the hospital’s Careflow system. This requires detailed knowledge of eRS, EVOLVE, Careflow and CCW amongst others.
To be knowledgeable about and understand medical terminology to ensure the correct transfer of clinical information onto the Carefow system.
To use the PTL to determine sequence of patients to be booked, adhering to the rules of the 18 week patient pathway.
Liaise with the Cardiology teams to ensure appointments are arranged for outpatients and diagnostic procedures to ensure maximum use of available clinical capacity.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English language
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience of working within the NHS in a similar setting
- Experience of booking appointments
- Experience of working in an environment dealing with Highly confidential data
Desirable criteria
- Experience of and understanding of waiting list management
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to enable liaison with multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers.
- Able to give 100% attention to detail when scheduling of appointments to prevent breaches of waiting list targets.
- Aware of confidentiality code of practice in relation to staff and patients
- Ensure punctuality and reliability of self to ensure good relationship within the team.
Desirable criteria
- Happy to work as part of a team
- Able to work under pressure and deal with conflict situations to an amicable conclusion.
- Good communication skills at all levels and across a range of individuals including clinical staff and patients
- Knowledge of Trust systems
