Job overview

We require professional, flexible, motivated and committed team members capable of delivering high quality, patient-focused care within a busy, progressive and varied department. 

You will be committed to clinical excellence with effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

You should have a flexible approach to working hours and be prepared to develop skills within the Trauma & Orthopaedic areas.

In service training will be given and opportunities for professional development will be available.

Applicants must be a registered nurse with an NMC registration.  Experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics would be beneficial

Main duties of the job

Carry out those activities involved when conducting the comprehensive assessment nursing requirements.
 Undertake the essential nursing assessment of the Trauma & Orthopaedics, taking into account all the activities of daily living.
Undertake relevant risk assessments in order to inform the care needs of Trauma & Orthopaedics
Recognise the significance of the observations made and use these to develop an initial nursing assessment.
Devise a plan of nursing care, based on the nursing assessment, taking into account the medical prescription. Do this with the co-operation of the parent/guardian, within the limitations set by medical condition.

 Implement the planned programme of care and teaches parents as appropriate to involve them in carrying out care for the baby.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TR

Essential criteria
  • RN (adult)
  • Degree in related field (or equivalent)
  • Relevant post registration experience
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of appropriate management and leadership programme
  • Teaching and assessment recognised qualification
  • Recognised communication skills.

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with orthopaedic patients or in a surgery setting
  • Experience of working with patients following surgery and providing personal care
  • Experience at a band 5 level within a related field.
  • Previous experience in teaching mentoring and coaching
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of working in a busy environment

SKILLS, ABILITIES &KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate on the telephone and face to face with patients, and colleagues, and be able to respond to those who may experience communication difficulties through language or understanding
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Able to know own limitations and seek advice
  • Able to complete delegated tasks set, follow and deliver instructions
  • Physical ability and endurance to work in the physical environment of the clinical area required by this post
  • Ability to plan and organise complex activities and programmes which may need adjustment on a regular basis
  • Dexterity and accuracy required for medicine administration and clinical interventions.
Desirable criteria
  • Have knowledge and insight into the importance of maintain a safe working environment
  • Ability to learn / ability to initiate self learning
  • Able to work within a team setting
  • Awareness of health and safety issues and policies
  • Proven ability to utilise word, power point and excel to a level of producing documents

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work required shift pattern
  • Can demonstrate ability to motivate self and others
  • Has insight into the needs of the surgical patient and their care needs.
  • The post holder may be required to work across all sites and will be required to travel between sites in a timely manner
