An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to jointly lead the Acute Medical team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The team includes you with the other Band 7, two Band 6s, Band 5 and a Band 3 and they work closely with the Physios and the innovative Home First team that undertakes discharge home visits with the care agencies using a Discharge to Assess approach.
Main duties of the job
- To work clinically assessing acute medical in- patients and providing recommendations regarding their ability to be discharged home or requiring some in-patient rehabilitation and liaising with all the community services available.
- To support your team to do the same and identify and develop your own interests supported and empowered by the Occupational Therapy manager.
- To work closely with the multidisciplinary team and lead and develop a most effective model and vision with your dynamic team, supervising and delegating.
- To contribute to interdisciplinary team management of long term disability and it’s consequent problems by use of specific clinical skills to treat .
- To be able to identify own professional limitations and seek professional advice when necessary.
- To undertake responsibility and leadership for completion and implementation of clinical projects, audit or research.
- To analyse and interpret clinical and non-clinical information to contribute to an accurate treatment approach.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Current registration with Health Professions Council
- Diploma /Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Fieldwork/clinical educators course
Desirable criteria
- Membership of professional special interest group
- BAOT Membership
Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Commitment to continuing professional development and reflective practice
- Knowledge and application of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning
- Demonstration of having initiated a change of practice or process after identification of clinical or service need
- Working experience in Medicine at Band 6 level
- Supervision of junior staff
- Participation in audit and research activities
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of posture and seating
- Experience of neurology intervention
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi disciplinary team, patients and carers to ensure records and reports are accurate and in legible manner (in English)
- Ability to integrate, participate and contribute as an effective member of a team
- Ability to self direct towards the attainment of clear goals
- Ability to prioritise tasks and functions against well reasoned standards.
- Ability to plan, manage and organise required tasks within available resources (including time)
- Knowledge of Current related legislation (H&S, Data P. Act, etc)
- Awareness of limitations of own professional abilities
- Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
- Ability to perform at times of high pressure/demand
