Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about delivering an orthopaedic service between Trauma and Orthopaedics and ESDOS (Early supported discharge  Orthopaedic service ) 

 The post holder will work and rotate within the inpatient Trauma and Orthopaedic team at  Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the ESDOS community team also based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. 

We pride ourselves on integrated team working and strive for best clinical practice. The post holder will have the opportunity to enhance their skills and management of trauma and orthopaedic patients with support from our band 7 Advanced Physiotherapists in Trauma and Orthopaedics and ESDOS   . 

We strongly encourage an evidenced based approach and support staff through supervision and appraisal.  There is a strong emphasis on student education. Attendance at post graduate courses is also supported.

Candidates will be expected to join and partake in emergency on call rota and weekend working rotas, therefore previous experience of working within a respiratory or intensive care field is essential.

Main duties of the job

To perform assessment and treatment for patients with complex needs, and to provide advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

 To participate in continuing professional and service development and contribute to organisational objectives

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCAION & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Current registration with Health Professions Council
  • Diploma /Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of CPD in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • MCSP Membership
  • Specific formal courses appropriate to post speciality
  • Membership of professional special interest group
  • Field work/clinical educators course

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience of at least 18 months in a junior rotational Physiotherapy post
  • Previous experience in core physiotherapy specialties including acute in patient care, respiratory, Musculoskeletal and neurology
  • Attendance at post graduate courses in related fields and demonstrates reflective learning
  • Experience of managing own caseload and prioritizing
  • Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team and contribute to decision making
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and reflective practice
  • Knowledge and application of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning
  • Establish and maintain CPD Portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstration of having initiated change of practice or process
  • Experience of on-call and weekend working in an acute NHS Hospital
  • Knowledge of areas of influence of psychosocial and cultural factors on health/illness behaviours
  • Experience of undertaking Senior (Band 6) role
  • Knowledge of areas of clinical governance including quality, audit and risk management
  • Experience in supervision of students and junior staff
  • Participation in audit and research and development activities

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to the specialist clinical area of post
  • Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/ experience and utilize advanced clinical reasoning skills
  • Able to carry out a range of assessments and procedures in order to make clinical assessments and diagnosis
  • Able to carry out manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling, requiring skilful and strenuous physical effort during the day
