Job overview

An exciting  opportunity for a band 7 Outpatients MSK Physiotherapist has arisen to cover a part time one year Maternity leave from  May 2024.

The interested applicant must be able to  perform specialised assessment and treatment for patients with highly complex presentations and needs in a musculoskeletal field; and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers, relatives and others.

To undertake all aspects of clinical responsibility as a skilled, autonomous and advanced practitioner.

To actively lead development of professional and service initiatives, and contribute to organisational objectives

To work in close liaison with the cross trust musculoskeletal clinical lead in all aspect of service delivery and development.

To supervise, teach and appraise Physiotherapy staff and students within the specialty

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for jointly leading and developing the Physiotherapy team (at Stoke Mandeville Hospital) within Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, in regard to all aspects of clinical governance within this specialty, shared responsibility. 

To perform specialised assessment and treatment for patients with highly complex presentations and needs in a musculoskeletal field; and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers, relatives and others.

To undertake all aspects of clinical responsibility as a skilled, autonomous and advanced practitioner.

To actively lead development of professional and service initiatives, and contribute to organisational objectives.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Current registration with Health Professions Council
  • Diploma /Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Membership of professional special interest group
  • Evidence of CPD in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
  • Field work/clinical educators course
Desirable criteria
  • MCSP Membership
  • Masters degree in related field

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Working experience at Band 6 level
  • Experience in related field at senior level
  • Experience in student clinical supervision
  • Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, and reflective practice
  • Knowledge and application of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff
  • Minimum of 18 months working experience at Band 6 level
  • Participation in audit and research activities
  • Establish and maintain CPD Portfolio
  • Demonstration of having initiated change of practice or process following identification of clinical or service need

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Awareness of limitations of own professional abilities
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi disciplinary team, patients and carers to ensure records and reports are accurate, legal and in legible manner (in English)
  • Ability to integrate, participate and contribute as an effective member of a team

  • Ability to prioritise tasks and functions against well reasoned standards
  • Positive response to constructive criticism
  • Intermediate and Advanced Musculoskeletal knowledge
  • Use of and/or knowledge of POMR record keeping

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential criteria
  • Physical ability and endurance to work in the physical environment of the clinical area of all rotations within this post
  • Ability to participate in on call / emergency working rota
  • Car driver / owner able to travel to other locations within the trust
