Job overview
Stoke Mandeville Hospital Operating Theatres are looking for a Theatres Sterile Services/Stores Operative to join our friendly team. As the emergency surgery site for the Trust, we support operations across a range of specialities, including General surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Plastic surgery Ophthalmology and Urology.
You will be supporting the care of patients undergoing operations by ensuring the provision of all sterile instruments and consumables to theatres within the agreed time. You will be joining a team of dedicated professionals who you will learn from on the job and we will provide training to ensure you have the skills for the role.
Main duties of the job
Your main job role will be ensuring all instruments and consumables are available to theatres the day before surgery, and to escalate any inability to do so in a timely manner.
- Assist in the delivery of patient care
- Contribute to quality improvement
- Adhere to all Trust Policies and Procedure
- To ensure all instruments and consumables are available for use to Theatres the day before surgery, and to escalate any shortfall to a senior person, in a timely manner.
- To ensure Surgeons’ preference cards are up to date, working in conjunction with Theatre staff.
- To ensure the prompt return to CSSD of all instruments, liaison with CSSD to ensure priority is given to urgent requirements.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
