Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for the effective leadership & management, service improvement, business development, strategy and non-clinical management input for Trauma & Orthopaedics and Urology. Particular emphasis on close working with the Professional Heads of Service and SDU leads to develop relationships with all stakeholders and improve Quality. 

The post-holder will assist the Director, Deputy Director, SDU Leads, and Nursing Leads, by providing efficient and effective operational and general service management to services within the Directorate. Providing cancer related activities, ensuring that services are responsive, innovative and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards. They will also take forward projects to improve service delivery for both areas which include patient experience.

The post-holder will need to be a critical thinker and proactive problem solver and develop and implement lasting solutions in conjunction with clinical and managerial colleagues. They will also be a key member of the Care Group Management Team, taking full responsibility for actions and for keeping other team members fully always informed.

 

 

Main duties of the job

Provide management and leadership oversight to Trauma & Orthopaedics and Urology under the Care Group of Surgery and Critical Care.

Plan and manage the implementation of projects to modernise services and to improve facilities and working practices to meet organisational and service delivery plans.

Lead on the development of specific staff engagement measures within the defined service areas, and support the implementation of the Care Groups Staff Survey and Engagement action plan, so that staff are able to contribute effectively to the achievement of objectives and targets

Monitor service improvement programmes and associated work streams that support specific patient pathways. Ensure collaborative partnership working with other NHS Trusts, CCGs and partners across the health economy, as required.

Identify cost pressures, service development and cost improvement plans.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING:

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Master’s degree level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised leadership and/or management qualification or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Significant experience of general or service management of clinical services at senior level, including a track record of Achieving improvements in service standards and patient experience, Ensuring that services meet local and national performance and quality standards, Developing innovative and lasting solutions to problems and difficulties
