Job overview

You will be a specialist in heart failure, caring for patients across the community and in-patient settings, using advanced skills to assess, treat and prevent hospital admissions with those who are affected by heart failure. 

Main duties of the job

Running out-patient clinics.

Running our IV diuretic lounge and virtual ward service.

Assessing in-patients on the ward.

Prescribing medications, or working towards a prescribing qualification. 

Using advanced assessment skills.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse - Currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council
  • MSc in nursing or working towards
  • ENB 998/ Mentorship Course
  • Evidence of continued professional development related to cardiology.
Desirable criteria
  • Assessment and diagnostic experience and qualification or willing to work towards.
  • Post registration cardiac specialist heart failure qualification e.g. Caledonian
  • Advanced Life Support Course

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing Heart Failure condition
  • Several years of cardiology experience
  • Cardiology experience
Desirable criteria
  • Substantial experience in delivering community based cardiac care
  • Experience in delivering formal and informal education and teaching self-management to complex patients / patient groups

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of ability to measure and evaluate outcomes of audits of cardiology patients
  • Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, written and verbal
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of effective budget and resource management
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Innovative and motivated
  • Reflective practitioner

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential criteria
  • Car driver- able to travel between sites and to external meetings
