Job overview

Buckinghamshire NHS Trust are keen to recruit an enthusiastic Cardiac Associate Practitioner to join our friendly non-invasive service.

The successful candidate should have experience working in a healthcare setting, ideally within in the field of Cardiology.

Experience performing 12 lead ECGs is essential for this role.

Main duties include performing 12 lead ECGs, fitting and removing Holter monitors and automated blood pressure monitors, assisting with exercise tolerance testing and assisting with tilt table testing.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform ECGs to a high standard in accordance with SCST guidelines and department minimum standards, with sufficient experience and knowledge to deviate from policy as required to obtain a clinically relevant study.
  • Sole responsibility for acquisition of complex clinical information and applying theory to deliver an accurate test, including the basic interpretation and recording of information you personally acquire and technical problem solving.
  • Obtain relevant clinical information by reading request forms in order to proactively tailor the study for each individual patient.
  • Identify and advise when an ECG is insufficient to answer the clinical question and proactively suggest alternative/additional investigations.
  • Perform non routine ECG investigations eg, carotid sinus stimulation working with a consultant cardiologist.
  • Review studies by other health care professions including across disciplines eg, Doctors/Nurses and provide specialist advice on recording of ECGs’ including where there is a difference of opinion.
  • Assist supervising physiologist including recording of ECG and Blood Pressure, checking adequate stock levels of consumables, record keeping and patient care.
  •  Produce accurate recording for each test with responsibility for your own caseload and apply technical and clinical theory to proactively adapt the test to each patient including technical problem solving. Responsible for keeping adequate stock levels of consumables.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to undertake training needed for role.

  • ILS or BLS certification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working with ECG equipment.
  • Experience working with Cardiology

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Must have good IT skills.
  • Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Specialist training in a minimum of one discipline with evidence of maintenance and development of skills to the level required for department minimum standards.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Holter monitoring.
  • Able to obtain a manual blood pressure measurement.

Special circumstances

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to work flexibly when the service requires this, including cross-site travel.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to move heavy equipment using safe manual handling technique.
