Job overview

The Cellular Pathology department, based at Wycombe Hospital,  is looking for a highly enthusiastic individual with Medical Secretary Experience, preferred, who can work as part of a team as well using their own initiative.

You will need previous medical secretary experience, outstanding organisational and communication skills; work well with staff and the public and must be able to demonstrate experience of working under pressure and to set deadlines.

However, to ensure alignment with the Direct Clinical Care time of the Clinicians for whom they support, flexibility from the core hours may be required and will be determined locally depending upon the needs of the service.

This is a part post working 25.5hours per week, Monday-Friday

Main duties of the job

To assist Consultant and junior medical staff, and laboratory based staff in the provision of an efficient, effective and comprehensive service in the cellular pathology department.

Responsibility also exists to carry out the requirements of the other Consultant Pathologists and the Junior Medical staff regarding typing of letters, second opinions, histology and cytology reports including macroscopic, microscopic and diagnostic descriptions, Coroner’s and Hospital post mortem reports and the circulation of any of the above.

This includes processing both NHS and Private Patient reports.

Use of skills and knowledge of medical terminology in order to complete all aspects of job description to the required standard

To provide secretarial support to laboratory managers, this is a busy role and the post holder will need to manager their own workload in an environment of frequent interruptions and conflicting demands. The post holder must therefore have the ability to rapidly assimilate information and respond appropriately.
