Department:  Audiology Services

Band 4 £25,146 - £27,596 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

In Audiology Services, we test the hearing of patients of all ages, from newborn babies to centenarians, fit hearing aids and provide ongoing support.  Our services include direct referral, tinnitus and hyperacusis clinics and a learning disability service.  Our team comprises 10 Audiologists and 3 Patient Pathway Coordinators (including this post). 

 

We work closely with the ENT staff, Paediatricians, the Newborn Hearing Screening Team in the hospital and with our colleagues in Community Paediatrics, Health Visiting, School Nursing, Speech and Language Therapy and Education to facilitate seamless care for our patients.

 

We are looking for a committed and focused individual to work as a Patient Pathway Coordinator within our busy department.  This role includes considerable contact with patients and their families both on the phone and in person.  You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and enjoy working in a demanding environment, whilst maintaining accurate record keeping and giving attention to detail.

Main duties of the job

Proactive coordination of patient pathways in accordance with national and locally defined policies and standards, inclusive of ensuring relevant appointments, diagnostic tests etc are arranged, results are reviewed, escalations to the relevant clinician or team are made, relevant departments are liaised with and MKUH systems are accurately updated.

Provision of a comprehensive senior administration service to clinicians and teams within Audiology.

 Monitoring of patient pathways, inclusive of updating relevant MKUH systems such as Auditbase, eCare, Clinic Outcome Forms and the Patient Tracking List (PTL).  Taking proactive measures to support delivery within national and locally agreed policies and standards.

Supporting operational teams to deliver an efficient and effective outpatient service.

Responding to queries ensuring that general data protection rules are adhered to, and excellent customer service provided.

General

Supporting clinical and operational teams to deliver an efficient and effective outpatient service.

 

Setting up outpatient clinics inclusive of booking / cancelling rooms and assisting operational teams with clinic template arrangements.

 

Communication/Patient Care

 

Provide a customer focused service dealing with all patients or visitors in an efficient, polite and courteous manner.

 

Ensure that all enquiries are dealt with in a timely, polite, professional and confidential manner, taking action or escalating as appropriate, using initiative and prioritising skills; referring clinical-related queries to appropriate staff.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good general education including English at GCSE (Grade C or above) or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 3 or relevant equivalent experience
  • Strong IT skills in relation to Microsoft packages
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Customer care work experience or previous clerical experience
  • Ability to input and retrieve information on a computerised system whilst adhering to complex local and national policies and guidelines accurately and efficiently.
  • Experience of handling inbound and outbound telephone calls of a potentially sensitive nature whilst recording information accurately into multiple electronic data systems.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of transcribing dictation or copy typing.

  • Evidence of working under pressure to tight deadlines and deal with difficult situations e.g., patients, public and visitors.
