Job Overview / Summary

We are now seeking to recruit a Non-Executive Director to join the Trust Board of Directors and drive forward the Trust’s strategic development. Working closely with the Trust Board Chair, you will have a strong commitment to the principles of the NHS and provide strategic direction, leadership and challenge at the Board of Directors.

You will have held senior leadership or consultancy positions in either the public or private sector, preferably operating at board or strategic level.  We are actively seeking applications from individuals with a medical/dental background and who are committed to making a contribution to excellent standards of care within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to ensure that the Trust fulfils its statutory and legislative responsibilities through utilising your professional skills and perspective to add value to the governance and strategic development of the Trust, holding senior managers to account, and offering collaborative challenge and advice. You are likely to have close links with our catchment area and will be committed to making a difference to the way care is delivered to patients.

You will be a collaborative individual who is progressive, ambitious and committed, with a proven record of delivery and able to establish relationships across complex stakeholder landscapes.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of Foundation Trusts, the NHS and the external environment in which they operate and accountability arrangements
  • Degree or equivalent experience in professional career
  • Qualifies as a public member of the Foundation Trust
  • Sound understanding of corporate governance
  • The ability to understand complex strategic issues and to analyse and resolve difficult problems
  • An understanding of and commitment to the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda in public service
  • An understanding of the essential need to build and maintain close relations with stakeholder groups to promote the effective operation of the Trust’s activities, including Council of Governors and Membership

Experience

  • Board and/or senior level experience in a public or private sector organisation
  • Understanding of complex organisations and a track record of leadership
