Band: 7 £43,742 - £50,056 per annum

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Following a review of the Paediatric Senior Nursing team at Milton Keynes University Hospital we now have a fantastic opportunity for a  Ward Manager – Senior Sister/Charge Nurse for our Paediatric Assessment Unit.

The Paediatric Assessment Unit is a dedicated area within our hospital where infants, children and young people can be assessed and treated for a range of presentations. The area is open 24/7 and enables children and families to be referred in for specialist paediatric assessment and care. They can be referred in through a number of pathways including from the community setting, or through the Urgent and Emergency Care pathway.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Children’s Nurse to lead our Paediatric Assessment Unit. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of patient care and safety. This role requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and a passion for working with children and their families.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the senior team across the Women and Children’s Division to ensure the provision of high-quality care across our Paediatric services. They will provide visible and professional leadership, whilst ensuring high standards of clinical excellence are maintained.

  • To act as an effective leader both professionally and managerially for all members of staff across the Children’s Units.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the unit and to be a point of contact for all unit staff as required.
  • To demonstrate a professional approach to the leadership and management of staff within the Children’s department and Division, by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical practice will flourish.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality and evidence-based care within the Children’s Unit and to ensure a positive patient and family experience.
  • To develop effective patient flow pathways throughout Children’s Services to ensure high quality care provision and patient experience.
  • To provide support with Children’s Safeguarding issues working within the statutory legal structure.
  • To provide cover and support for other Senior Sister/Charge Nurses/Ward Managers in their absence across the directorate.

As part of this role, the successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and role modelling across the Children’s Unit and as a result working clinically is incorporated within this role. There is also an expectation that the individual will support the wider Paediatric and Neonatal Services in relation to day to day operational support including staffing and escalation.

  • A degree level qualification in nursing
  • Evidence of career progression and updating academic education.
  • EPLS or equivalent.

Experience

  • Significant post registration experience within paediatrics
  • Relevant experience at a Band 6 level.
  • Evidence of provision of high standards of care within paediatric services.
  • Evidence of teaching/facilitating learning in practice.
  • Evidence of effective leadership and management.

  • Effective change management experience.
