Job overview

To provide a comprehensive Medical Secretarial and Administration Service to the Department in strict accordance with GDPR and Trust confidentiality guidelines, ensuring all work is processed in a timely, efficient way.

Provide a full and comprehensive Medical Secretarial Service, including timely audio typing of clinic letters, letters, documents/presentations and compilation of letters as required by the Consultant(s) and respective Team(s). This may involve correction of incorrect grammar and interpretation of different pronunciations and handwritten clinical notes of advanced medical terminology

Main duties of the job

To provide a support Medical Secretarial and Administration Service within Gastroenterology team. 

 To undertake accurate audio/copy typing (digital) of medical correspondence and general administration for the Consultants and their teams. This will include highly sensitive and complex medical terminology with a need for confidentiality.

To take telephone calls and to take appropriate action as and when required. This will include passing on accurate messages to other staff.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Grade C or above/equivalent in English Language
Desirable criteria
  • RSA II Typing, or equivalent
  • Medical Secretarial Course/ Medical Terminology Course, or ability to demonstrate equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within busy office environment
  • Experience of word processing
  • Experience of audio-typing
Desirable criteria
  • Experience Working within The NHS in a similar setting

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Good written and telephone communication skills, to enable liaison with staff at all levels
  • Ability to organize and prioritise busy workload
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of GDPR Regulations
  • Knowledge of Trust Information Systems, e.g. Medway
