Additional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Entry requirements: The course entry requirements have been developed to ensure that apprenticeships are accessible to a wide and diverse range of applicants whilst still ensuring appropriate standards to allow those to be successful on the course. Maths and English form a mandatory part of all apprenticeship standards and the government requires that all higher and degree apprentices demonstrate evidence of English and Maths qualifications at Level 2 or above (Nb. Grade 4 or higher for current GCSEs, previously Grade C or above), before an apprentice can pass through the Gateway and complete their apprenticeship. Where an apprentice during our onboarding process does hold a Level 2 qualification or cannot evidence achievement at Level 2 or above in English and Maths, we will refer the apprentice to our Functional Skills Training Partner to complete the relevant English and/or Maths Functional Skills qualification during the first year of their apprenticeship. We also require evidence of successful formal accredited study at Level 3 and a minimum of 6 months experience in a health and social care capacity (including any placements or work-based learning undertaken as part of a Level 3 qualification). This is because we place high value on experiential learning obtained through health and social care experience. Where applicants do not have a minimum of 6 months experience working in a health and social care capacity, we would still invite to apply, but as they do not hold health and social care specific experiential learning, we would need evidence of higher academic learning from previous study at Level 3 and above. We would expect applicants with no health and social care experience to normally hold one of the following: • 96 UCAS points or above from A levels or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Nationals, Cambridge Technicals, OCR Nationals and T Levels. • Access to HE Diploma from a QAA recognised Access to HE course • Level 3 Apprenticeship • Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQ’S) New or existing Level 4 or 5 qualifications (such as HNDs, Foundation Degrees, Certificate HE or Diploma HE) • Previous degree Other qualifications may be considered in discussion with the University. Where applicants have undertaken qualifications in a related subject, we will consider this an individual basis. An applicant’s understanding of health and social care and the profession is assessed throughout the selection event processes.
