Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated and passionate Diagnostic Radiographers to join our X-ray Imaging team at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

As a world-renowned hospital, there are many opportunities to develop your career. CUH are proud to have a team of Radiographers with extended roles in MSK reporting, chest and abdominal reporting, Fluoroscopy, HSGs, and Lithotripsy.

After an induction period, you will work within the different areas of imaging, and have a developmental rotation where you have the opportunity to work in an area that can help develop your future career. Please note that you will not rotate through cross sectional Imaging. 

CUH provide an X-ray service to satellite Hospitals in Saffron Walden and Ely. You will be based at CUH but may be required to work offsite at these locations when required. 

We welcome current 3rd year undergraduates qualifying in 2025 to apply and posts will be held for successful candidates.

HCPC registration and BSc in Diagnostic Radiography is essential. If you are a current undergraduate you will need to apply for HCPC upon qualification.

Main duties of the job

To perform a range of diagnostic radiographic procedures, as required throughout the department, and maintain associated records.

To supervise, assist and train student radiographers and assistant staff in both the delivery of the service and their individual development needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As well as state of the art innovative X-ray equipment, CUH is the first in the NHS to revolutionise to a fully integrated Electronic Patient Record (EPR) award winning service. This accolade puts us among an elite group of leading hospitals and medical centres across the world that uses EPR systems as a tool to support clinicians in providing high quality patient care.

The X-ray department provides a 24 hour emergency service and operates an out of hours shift system. Radiographers are contracted to work a variety of shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.

As a Trust we offer Link Grade progression towards a Band 6 Radiographer, on completion of the relevant experience and competencies.

Please note:- Internal applicants on permanent contracts can only apply for the fixed term post as a secondment and must have the approval of your current line manager before applying.

A welcome subsidy of £1000 is available to all Band 5 and Band 6 Nurses, Midwives, ODPs and Radiographers and Band 5 Orthoptists taking up substantive employment with the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Current / Applied for (if new graduate) HCPC registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience in a wide range of general plain film radiography
  • Experience working in an acute hospital care setting
  • Experience in trauma and theatre work
  • Experience in use of DR equipment
Desirable criteria
  • Working with student Radiographers
  • Experience working in the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Accurate patient positioning
  • Good radiographic technique
  • Good knowledge of anatomy
  • Knowledge of exposure factors
  • Working knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017
