Specialist Oncology Dietitian

Band 6

We have a fantastic opportunity to recruit a Band 6 to our developing Oncology Dietetic Team. We are looking for a suitably qualified Dietitian to support the Oncology Dietetic service on a permanent 3 day per week basis.  We will accept Band 5s onto a sliding band post with a view to moving up to Band 6 once competencies are met.

You will be supported by our Senior Dietitians and be provided with training. You will be involved in providing a service to patients across the cancer pathway including Inpatients and Outpatients and all modes of treatment; Chemotherapy / Radiotherapy / Surgery.  

Our Specialist Cancer SMDTs are very inclusive and supportive and we have a strong presence and professional profile within them.  Many of the  Oncology Dietetic Team also have regional and national involvement in their clinical areas.

Our department has 100+ Dietitians. Our Oncology team is currently 13  strong and  we are involved in the planning and preparing of our new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital. We currently provide services to specialities including Head and Neck, HPB, Haem-Oncology and Transplant, UGI, Colorectal and Lung.

To act as part of the Dietetic Team and in conjunction with the Oncology / Critical Care Team to contribute to the Dietetic Services to a variety of Oncology areas such as Lung, Head and Neck, Upper GI, HPB and Haemato-oncology patients, streamlining service and care regionally where appropriate in conjunction with the Band 7s and Band 8a Dietitians at Addenbrooke’s and other external Units / agencies as appropriate.

To work within a multi-professional framework and contribute to a first class service through evidence based clinical practice, management, education, research and audit.

To set and work towards individual and team objectives that reflect corporate plans and work within the clinical governance framework.

  • Appropriate degree / diploma to post graduate level such as Diploma in Advanced dietetic Practice or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Evidence of CPD (portfolio)

Experience

  • Good general acute experience in the NHS or comparable hospital systems
  • Evidence of researching and experiencing specialist Dietetic areas including one or more of the following: Nutrition Support, Oncology, Gastroenterology and Surgery
  • MDT work
  • Evidence of the ability to research and produce project portfolios / work
  • Experience of giving talks / group education sessions on dietetic subjects
  • Interest in Nutrition Support, Oncology and Dietetics

  • Experience in nutrition support / Oncology / Upper GI / Gastro / Surgery
  • Student Training experience
  • Proven development work in either speciality or can demonstrate the potential from transferable specialisms
  • Experience of developing and delivering staff and patient education programmes
  • Experience using electronic patient record
