Operations Manager – Urgent & Emergency Care Services

Band 8c

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager to lead our UEC services within Division C - one of five Clinical Divisions operating within the Trust.

The post holder will ensure the delivery of key targets within the budgeted resources available, maximizing clinical and other income streams where possible.  You will lead strategic planning for the Urgent & Emergency Care Services, including the engagement of senior medical and other staff.  You will also lead the planning, development and implementation of service development and improvement, capital and other projects for the areas you are responsible for.  In agreement with the DDO, there will be the opportunity to lead planning and deliver work on behalf of the Division, working corporately across the organisation.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a strong operational management background and a proven track record for delivering targets and working with clinicians to solve complex problems. You will have experience of balancing the quality and improvement agenda to achieve good patient outcomes and safe, excellent care. You will have experience of managing a fast paced operational role whilst leading projects, service delivery and performance responsibilities. You will be a credible, visible leader who will be able to demonstrate effective people leadership skills.

This role requires that you participate in the Trust On Call Rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will independently lead and manage the Urgent & Emergency Care Services (UEC) which include the Emergency Department (ED), the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and the Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) and related unscheduled care services. They will also be responsible for the National Trauma Service.

The Emergency Department plays a key, and early stage, role as part of the Trust’s responsibility as the Major Trauma Centre for the East of England and is a leading national Centre for specialist treatment for other rare and complex conditions. As a consequence, you will need to have the ability to work alongside clinicians in engaging widely with external and internal stakeholders to ensure care pathways are optimal and deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients, including supporting pathway patient streaming away from the ED.

The key focuses of this role will be ensuring the delivery of key objectives and targets, alongside planning and development of services on behalf of the DDO and the Clinical Director, working in collaboration with other Directorates and outside agencies, such as the ICS, Social Services, Independent Sector, etc.

They will be the lead for risk management and co-ordinate all responses to patient complaints.

They will provide cross cover across the Division as required.

There is a commitment to the Divisional Trust Silver command structure which includes some weekend working.
