Band 6

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Orthoptist to carry out specialist Orthoptic and Medical Retina Clinics.

This post is suitable for Orthoptists who would like to specialise in medical retinal conditions and are happy to carry out intravitreal injections.

You will not require any previous experience, as full training will be provided in this specialised role. We also provide excellent career progression and mentoring support.

Addenbrooke’s Hospital is a large teaching hospital and a research centre with strong affiliations with Cambridge University. It has a rich history of breaking the barriers of modern medicine and providing compassionate care for the patients.

Opportunities in teaching and research are also available.

Main duties of the job

Orthoptics

To be autonomously responsible for the diagnosis, management and treatment of patients presenting to the Orthoptic department and formulate relevant discharge plans and make appropriate onward referral.

Provide timely paediatric and adult Orthoptic Services at Addenbrooke’s NHS Trust and off-site Community Services, including specialist Orthoptic Services.

Participate in extended Orthoptic clinical roles.

Medical Retina

The Orthoptist will also have an extended role in the Medical Retina Clinic and will be performing intravitreal injections on patients with age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy in a Consultant-led Clinic. The injections would be carried out on a pre-determined group of patients following a competency-based programme of training.

You will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and develop practice to ensure that quality standards are met.
