Job overview

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Music Therapist to join a new collaborative venture between Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) and Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). This role offers the chance to work both clinically within CUH’s Paediatric Inpatient and Outpatient Services and as a researcher at the Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research (CIMTR) at ARU.

You will join the existing music therapy service at CUH in providing music therapy to children and families, and in addition will contribute to research that explores the impact of music therapy on health and well-being. You will also work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers to ensure the highest standard of care and evidence-based practice.

Main duties of the job

To participate in the delivery of our CUH Paediatric Music Therapy Service, managing a caseload of clients and delivering music therapy with Paediatric Outpatients and Inpatients, along with a comprehensive research programme partnership with ARU.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in Music Therapy
  • Professional Qualification in Music Therapy at master's level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of a special interest group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience managing own caseload and prioritising effectively
  • Experience with Music Therapy individual assessment and intervention relevant to Paediatrics
  • Experience of using clinical supervision effectively
  • Experience and necessary skills in providing group work
  • Experience writing professional and detailed reports
  • Experience working with children and their families
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant post registration training experience
  • Experience of working in Paediatrics
  • Experience of working collaboratively with people and teams

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A strong understanding of music therapy theory in relation to clinical area and modality, informed by research and practice-based evidence
  • Understanding of a range of contemporary professional methods and approaches
  • Knowledge and understanding of research methodology and outcome measurements

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work flexibly and responsively
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own workload autonomously, which may include a range of longer- and short-term work
  • Good communication skills, capable of conveying and receiving sensitive information within emotive contexts
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of professionals
