Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the Paediatric Regional Centre with a variety of specialisms: Critical Care, Major Trauma, Oncology, Rheumatology and Orthopaedics and Cystic Fibrosis. We are excited to be planning for a new regional Children’s Hospital due to open in 2025. 

Our Physiotherapy Service works with a multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Dietitians, Pharmacists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists to manage the care of our patients.  You will have an opportunity to develop advanced skills in Critical Care, respiratory specialisms and rehabilitation, as well as work alongside the existing clinical specialists in Cystic Fibrosis, Musculoskeletal and Neuro-oncology.

You will have a passion for the care of children with acute hospital needs, as well as being involved in their long term condition management plans.

The team is friendly and dedicated towards the delivery of an excellent service for all our users, as well as constantly looking at better ways to provide a service.

You will be strongly supported in learning new skills and gaining additional training and be guided by a specialist and experienced team.

Main duties of the job

Part of the Acute Paediatric Service delivering care across the Inpatient Wards, specifically to PICU, General Wards and Oncology / Haematology.

Perform advanced specialist physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse medical, neurological and musculoskeletal presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.

Educate and train Physiotherapy colleagues, students and the MDT regarding the paediatric specialist area of Physiotherapy.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of Physiotherapy students.

Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice.

Communicate effectively with the patients, relatives, other Physiotherapists and the MDT to ensure a high standard of patient care and service provision.

Be actively involved in the development of the team and physiotherapy service as a whole.

Undertake management roles including coordinating workloads, assisting with delivery of the Departmental respiratory competencies programme, delegating duties, appraising and mentoring staff and recruitment and selection.

Maintain specialist respiratory Physiotherapy competency in order to participate in the out of hours’ Respiratory Physiotherapy Service.

Act independently and without supervision.

Deputise for the team leader in their absence.
