Trainee Sonographer (Obstetrics)

This is a Trainee Sonographer position open to Midwives, Nurses and Radiographers. We are currently looking for an individual, from an appropriate professional background, to join our team as a Trainee Sonographer working towards a Postgraduate qualification in Obstetric Ultrasound.
This post will be offered on a part time Band 6 Fixed Term or Seconded post of 25.5 hours (banding will depend on current experience and qualifications). Following successful completion of the Obstetric Ultrasound course, if there are current vacancies, you will be invited to apply for a Band 7 sonographer position.

To undertake post graduate training in Obstetric Ultrasound
To undertake a theoretical course in Obstetric Ultrasound in conjunction with practical ultrasound training
Main Duties include:
- Undertaking learning in the clinical and academic environments, learning the practical skill of scanning by working alongside a qualified Sonographer (acting as the main mentor) as well as working with different Sonographers with in our team to gain additional experience and knowledge.
- Attending appropriate meetings, including local MDT and staff meetings.
- Remaining up to date with mandatory training and DOT e-learning.
- Developing knowledge on antenatal screening and learning to develop skills to aid women’s choices around antenatal screening
We are looking for someone who is hard working and able to adapt to new ways of working, especially when splitting their time between academic and on the job training. The role will involve 3 clinical days per week when not at University (this may vary depending on which university you attend). The academic element of this training is undertaken at level 7 and will lead to a post graduate certificate in Obstetric Ultrasound.

Additional Requirements

- Evidence of CPD
- To undertake practical competency assessment as required.
- Prepared to work contracted hours flexibly, including working at weekends if/when required.
- With supervision able to scan for duration of full list / session
- Able to transfer patients following manual handling training

- A preliminary offer at an educational institution to study the theoretical aspect of the course, prior to interview, is desirable
- Experience of research
- Willingness to participate in departmental presentations, study days.
- Demonstrable experience of audit.
