Job overview

Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow Core (ST1-ST3)/Higher (ST4-ST5/ST6+) in Emergency Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Posts will be either 100% clinical or 80% clinical / 20% interest in area development. 

All posts are available from 06 August 2025 until 03 February 2026 with a possibility of an extension based on mutual agreement.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will be treated like all other Trainees within the Emergency Department. They will be assigned an Educational Supervisor and will be able to attend the monthly departmental teaching program. Experience gained in these posts could be counted in future towards training applications through the CESR-CP pathway.

Applicants must meet the essential criteria outlined in the Person Specification section of the job description for the relevant grade of Fellow post that they are applying for.

Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Emergency Department (ED) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the biggest in the region seeing over 130,000 patients a year. The hospital is the Major Trauma Centre for the East of England region covering a wide geographical population and 12 other District hospitals. 

There is access to all hospital specialties and all investigative facilities including Ultrasound within the ED. There is extended supervision and training with Consultant presence from 08:00-03:00 and 24/7 Trainee shop-floor presence.
