Delivery Unit Coordinator

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic midwife with expert clinical and leadership experience to fill this position as a Delivery Unit Coordinator.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the day to day clinical leadership and standards of midwifery services, including all staff groups, students and visitors within the Delivery Unit and have responsibility for the management and coordination of these teams. 

They will demonstrate effective and compassionate leadership skills to support staff to provide kind, safe, personalised care based on current research. They will organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives and goals within their sphere of responsibility.

They will participate in multidisciplinary team ward rounds on Delivery Unit and daily perinatal liaison meetings taking into account the theatre schedule and booked inductions of labour for prospective twenty four hours.

They will work in collaboration with the Matron for Delivery Unit, the inpatient maternity ward managers, the senior management team and clinical leads to ensure high standards of quality care provision on the Delivery Unit and will assist in taking the quality and improvement agenda forward within the department.

They will be highly visible, approachable and committed to improving maternal and neonatal outcomes while supporting staff from a clinical and non-clinical perspective.

Responsible for the day to day running of the service, providing effective and dynamic clinical leadership and support to all midwives, support staff and students working on Delivery Unit while proactively seeking to develop the service and promote and improve high standards of care.

Support with day to day operational management of the maternity unit.

Support and develop the team on the Delivery unit to ensure an effective learning environment, work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring effective working relationships.

Actively contribute to the strategic development of the services to meet both the present and future provision of maternity services in line with the Trust, Regional and National objectives. 

Assist in the development of the professional midwifery agenda to achieve high standards of care and innovation with a strong focus on kind, safe and personalised care.

Oversee staff duty rotas to ensure the Delivery Unit has appropriate staff and skill mix to provide safe care within available resources and have responsibility for the operational management of personnel issues such as the management of sickness absence and support of staff wellbeing.

Support staff to report and escalate incidents, dealing with complaints and handling sensitive issues. Ensure incidents are reviewed, actioned and learning disseminated appropriately.

  • Degree in Midwifery or equivalent relevant experience
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating evidence of relevant ongoing professional development

  • NLS or equivalent
  • ILS course or equivalent
  • NIPE qualification
  • Leadership qualification
  • Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience

Experience

  • Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the maternity service
  • Evidence of relevant clinical updating
  • Evidence of leadership, management and/or team development at a clinical level.
  • Robust understanding of related Guidelines and Policies and their revision

  • Involvement with clinical audit and research
  • Use of computerised information system
  • Participation and contribution to local Regional/National maternity forums
  • Experience in leading on complaint responses and client feedback.

Knowledge
