Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Nephrology (with an interest in Transplant Medicine) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Renal Department provides a fully comprehensive renal service for adult patients living in and around Cambridge, and together with the Transplant Service provides a regional service for kidney transplantation and kidney / pancreas transplantation in the Eastern Region. It also has particular interest and expertise in the management of autoimmune and inflammatory renal conditions, attracting referrals nationally and internationally.
In addition the Nephrology in-patient service provides care to those general medicine patients admitted to beds on the renal / transplant and associated wards.
Main duties of the job
You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Nephrology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will be in General Nephrology with a focus on transplantation. The post-holder will join the existing Consultants in management of general nephrology, transplant, and dialysis patients at CUH, and will participate in the on-call Consultant rota – when on-call they will have responsibility for inpatients admitted on to the renal wards as well as providing out of hours cover. Outpatient clinics include a mix of general nephrology, transplant assessment, and transplant follow-up (including follow-up of the failing transplant) clinics. The post-holder will also contribute to the dialysis line access service for insertion of tunnelled and non-tunnelled dialysis catheters.
In addition, the job holder will be part of a departmental initiative that engages in and encourages research, in particular both laboratory and clinical research in the fields of (a) autoimmunity and vasculitis, (b) renal genetic and tubular disorders, and (c) transplantation. The Department seeks to recruit and train able physicians, in particular, those with academic aspirations.
