Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Clinical Oncology (Head & Neck and Acute Oncology Service) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an 8 PA post to start ASAP for a period of 6 months.

They will join ambitious and supportive teams at The Oncology Centre at CUH. We offer patients the highest standards of care in diagnostics, surgery, radiotherapy and systemic therapies, with holistic support throughout their illness. 

Main duties of the job

The duties of this post include the provision of radiotherapy and systemic therapy for patients with head & neck tumours and supporting the weekly MDTs.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Clinical Oncology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust. Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Working alongside the Consultants are teams of Specialist Nurses, Clinical Trials Nurses, and two Specialist Therapy Radiographers. 

Advanced radiotherapy techniques including SABR, IMRT, VMAT and motion management are in routine use in the department. The Unit is highly research active with a large number of patients entering interventional and non-interventional trials.

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in their specialist cancers, and help develop and future-proof our services, including state-of-the art radiotherapy and precision medicine services. 

They will be expected to contribute to clinical research.  We are fortunate to be embedded in the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, where world-leading scientific advances are being made.
