Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant post in Paediatric intensive Care unit at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to commence as soon as possible for 12 months.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will provide Consultant clinical service, clinical leadership, specialist advice and multidisciplinary management for Paediatric intensive Care.  

You will be fully registered with the GMC or be within six months of award of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a friendly and enthusiastic team including clinicians, highly experienced Nurses, Specialty Registrars and fellows.

Our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit supports a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, major trauma, education and research. We are the regional centre for paediatric surgery, with a 13 bedded PICU and a 40 cot neonatal unit. Paediatric cardiac surgery, paediatric transplantation and craniofacial are the only subspecialties not offered on site.

There are close links with the University Department of Paediatrics and the Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Neonatal Transport Team.  

We also have close links with CUH Perinatal services, and the University Department of Paediatrics.

CUH, together with Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Foundation Trust and Cambridge University are well on the way in developments to build a new Cambridge Children’s Hospital. Work is underway with the building expected to open in 2028.
