The Pharmacy Department at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ambitious and forward thinking, striving to ensure that the patient is always at the heart of everything we do.

We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join our team and provide advanced clinical services to our newly configured general medicine cohort.

As we look to promote the organisation and governance of general medicine patients within the hospital we are looking for a team leader who is an adaptable and well rounded pharmacist. You need to be able to  work flexibly with our pharmacy team, the wider healthcare multidisciplinary team, the discharge planning services and our operational colleagues. 

You will be responsible for the direct patient care of an agreed patient group within general medicine, as well as having professional oversight responsibilities for a team of rotational pharmacists within your service.

We are looking for a proactive individual with experience supporting patient flow and capacity, with the drive to deliver service change and development. 

This role would suit an individual who wishes to take this opportunity to progress not only their career but the service we provide to patients within the trust.

Qualifications

  • Masters level degree in pharmacy.
  • Registered as a pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
  • Registered as an independent prescriber with the GPhC, or commitment to completing this.

  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Member of the faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (or working towards) at Advanced Stage II.

Experience

  • Recent significant post-registration experience.
  • Recent significant experience of patient consultation.
  • Experienced clinical pharmacist at band 7 or band 8a who has covered a range of specialities.
  • Experience of documenting in medical notes.
  • Experience of writing professional reports.
  • Experience of writing drug policies and treatment guidelines.
  • Experience of developing and reviewing patient group directions and shared care guidelines.
  • Evidence of having conducted clinical audit.
  • Experience of the practical application of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
  • Experience of the management of high-cost and high-risk medicines.
  • Experience as a personal tutor to a range of staff groups.
  • Experience of developing and leading on projects including change management and service development.

  • Recent significant post-registration hospital experience, ideally including previous experience in a teaching hospital and experience of more than one hospital.
  • Recent practical experience of independent prescribing.
  • Evidence of having written pharmaceutical and/or educational publications.
  • Experience of drug expenditure analysis and reporting.
  • Experience of horizon scanning.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of NICE, Health Education England (HEE), NPSA guidance and their local implementation.
  • Knowledge of UK healthcare systems and NHS changes.
  • Computer literate with experience of Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Familiar with the use of a range of visual aids for teaching.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic prescribing IT systems.
