Job overview

We are seeking  compassionate and highly motivated individuals who act as a role models and have clinical leadership skills to coordinate anaesthetic practitioners across all theatre and satellite areas alongside the anaesthetic team leaders.

CUH Theatres employ over 600 staff who work across a total of 37 operating theatres including specialities such as General surgery, Transplant, Orthopaedic surgery, ENT and Maxillofacial surgery, Neurosurgery and Paediatric surgery. We are a regional Major Trauma Centre and in doing so serve a very wide and complex population. The post holder must have the ability to work as part of a team as well as being able to work autonomously. The role requires an ability to act as an expert resource, provider and role model within clinical areas with a flexible and adaptable approach, responding to the demands within the trust.

 Applications are invited from Allied Health Professionals (AHP) or Nurses (RNs) with a passion for clinical education and practice development with the drive to ensure that all the members of our teams experience is of high quality, safe, and fit for purpose support.

 You will support and coordinate the development of pre and post registration ODP/Nursing students alongside our education team.

Main duties of the job

Registration with appropriate professional body

The post holder is responsible for the provision of a high quality patient focused service, based upon the assessment of patient’s needs within a designated specialist area of perioperative practice.

To act as a clinical specialist, supervising and supporting the teams to ensure the provision of an effective and efficient service to patients and clinicians

Support the training and development of all grades of staff, including the provision of a positive learning environment in which staff can maximise their potential

Manage the department out of normal working hours and deputise for the Team Leader as required.

A welcome subsidy of £1000 is available to all Band 5 and Band 6 Nurses, Midwives, ODPs and Radiographers taking up substantive employment with the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC/HCPC registration
  • Mentorship/ Practice Assessor qualification
  • Recognised Anaesthetic course for registered nurses
  • Recognised ODP qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of further professional development
  • Leadership qualification (e.g. ILM Level 2 Award)
  • Human factors training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Highly skilled Anaesthetic Practitioner
  • Clinically current in more than one area of perioperative practice including ENT
  • Experience in managing and leading a team
  • Evidence of surpervision/mentoring of learners and junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a band 5 anaestheic practitoner
  • Experience in audit and resource management
  • Awareness of HR processes pertaining to staff and management

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work within the boundaries of the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Of managing, leading and working as an integral member of the team
  • Of development/innovation in Theatre clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of strategic objectives
  • Experience with clinical teaching
