NHS Medical & Dental: Clinical Fellow

Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Trauma Fellow (Core) in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Trauma Fellow (Core) into the Trauma Centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  This post is available from 06 August 2025 for 12 months. This position would be ideal for a Resident Doctor ready to apply for ST3 positions.

All previous Fellows have gone on to be appointed at ST3 level at national interviews.

Main duties of the job

You will work directly under the supervision of 7 Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeons in the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit (OTU). Your day to day work will involve the care of the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit polytrauma patients. You will have a minimum of 2 days in theatre, and a day in fracture clinic.

Please note that the above post does not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.

In order to be considered for the above position applicants must have evidence of achievement of Foundation Competencies with specific eligibility criteria available in the person specification for the post and hold full registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council at the point of application. Applicants must also demonstrate an ability to communicate in English in a clinical environment.

You will be expected to have at least 1 national presentation and 1 publication by the end of your time in post. The previous Fellows have prepared and submitted 3 academic articles whilst in post. Applicants must have their MRCS, and ATLS, and be in a position to apply for registrar level posts.

Working for our organisation

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
