Hello, I am Nadean, Occupational Therapy Lead for the Community Forensic Psychiatry Service. We have an exciting opportunity for a Occupational Therapist to join our team, with the scope to develop specialist professional skills with a client group who have diverse and complex needs, under the supervision of an Advanced Practitioner.

If successful, you will be based in Cambridge and Peterborough working with adults diagnosed with a mental health condition and/or learning disability who present with a risk of significant harm to others, to achieve optimal management of risk and maximum recovery.

Working closely with the individual, the MDT produces a client centred care package that is focused around personal needs. The service adopts a compassionate and trauma informed approach to promote relapse prevention and recovery, so enabling individuals to realise their full potential whilst supporting them to continue to build and live meaningful lives in the community. The team delivers this within pathways including Functional assessment, Reablement, Sensory Approaches, Vocation and a group programme.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the Occupational Therapist role in the Forensic Psychiatry Community Service is to collaboratively work with the individuals referred to our service to maintain, restore or create a match between the abilities of the person, the demands of his or her activities and occupations, and the demands of the environment in order to improve function and access to opportunities for meaningful participation in daily life. 

As part of the Occupational Therapy team, the post holder will deliver an Occupational Therapy service following a referral pathway process. This will be providing specialist Occupational Therapy interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the principles of recovery, enablement, compassionate care, optimism, hope and unconditional positive regard.
