CPFT Adult and Specialist Mental Health care group provides Secure forensic inpatient mental health services on a unit called George Mackenzie House and we function within the wider forensic pathway of services most notably via the collaborative working with the community forensic community team.

This role in primarily based on George Mackenzie House but would involve working in partnership with the forensic Community team to undertake outreach work, cross cover and potential rotational working for development, service provisional needs.

The purpose of the Occupational Therapist role on George Mackenzie House is to collaboratively work with the patient group admitted to our service to maintain, restore or create a match between the abilities of the person, the demands of his or her activities and occupations, and the demands of the environment in order to improve function and access to opportunities for meaningful participation in daily life.

The successful candidate would be working within an established team of professional who would support them and empower them to learn and grow themselves and the service provided.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Occupational Therapy team, you will deliver an Occupational Therapy service following a pathway process. Providing specialist Occupational Therapy interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the principles of recovery, enablement, compassionate care, optimism, hope and unconditional positive regard. 

You will apply a level of understanding of Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention with the aim of supporting the service user to engage in meaningful activity and increase function, skill, enjoyment and well-being, through group and 1:1 session. 

You will include provision of specialist occupational therapy support, knowledge and advice to team members as well as other stakeholders such as community teams, general adult inpatient services and accommodation support staff.

You will work collaboratively with all disciplines as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assure a high standard of care for patient/clients and their relatives/carers, under supervision of a Senior Occupational Therapist.

You will apply a level of understanding of the impact of chronic mental health difficulties on occupational performance and participation and provide supportive information on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the service user’s social and physical environment.

You will respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of service users and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
