We are looking for a Housekeeper to join our team at the Darwin Centre.  

The Darwin Centre for Young People is a Tier 4 adolescent inpatient unit based in Cambridge. The unit offers assessment and treatment to young people, aged 13-18 years old, experiencing psychiatric, emotional or psychological problems that interfere with their social, interpersonal and educational functioning.

The ward housekeeper is a vital role within the inpatient ward setting, as well as being part of a wider team that ensure each patient has a good experience.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To help maintain and improve the patients’ experience by ensuring that a high standard of fresh, nutritious, and appealing food is available to young people at all times.
  • To plan, organise, and supervise the day to day catering operations on the unit.
  • To be responsible for all aspects of food preparation and ordering relating to patients’ needs. This includes making simple meals for the patients e.g. sandwiches, salads, pasta dishes etc. Ensuring that food for special diets is available as required.
  • To co-ordinate and manage all aspects of cook chill meals; ordering, storage, preparation.
  • To augment cook chill meals with fresh food.
  • To support therapeutic cookery activities on the unit.
  • To support young people and families in their use of the kitchen.
  • To work closely as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Take responsibility for electronic ordering, stock control and supervision of environmental upkeep.

  1. Participate in the ordering of food for the unit, ensuring that there are adequate supplies, and that young people have a choice about what is available.
  2. Organise the kitchen in order that each young person has the food they require and that this is labelled and stored appropriately.
  3. To work closely with nurses in order to promote healthy eating.
  4. To check and maintain food supplies/stocks.
  5. To be responsible for regular food shopping from local supermarket.
  6. To ensure the maintenance of kitchen/eating areas in line with regulations.
  7. To manage food storage in line with regulations.
  8. To assist nursing staff with the preparation of cooking activities for the families and children.
  9. To provide hospitality when required for meetings and for visitors.
  10. Ensure that all food preparation and serving areas are maintained to the highest standards (e.g. hygiene, tidiness, and a fresh and appetising appearance of products).
