We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, dedicated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Intensive Support Team (IST) for adults with learning disabilities, based in Peterborough. This team offers you a unique opportunity to develop your skills and understanding both of working with adults with learning disabilities and of the system and partners. This is a part-time post which with our OT already in post gives fulltime cover to the team.
Our team supports adults with learning disabilities who have complex needs. Our goal is to support our service users to remain in their community at a time of crisis, by offering additional mental health support, therapy, and treatment. We work to source appropriate accommodation for service users to allow them to return from out of area placements and work closely with services supporting young people to prevent them having to leave Peterborough unnecessarily.
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to work with our multidisciplinary team. If you are successful, you will be providing input in to Positive Behaviour Support and trauma informed care. A key part of your role will be further enhancing the MDT and supporting the team with developing an understanding of people’s difficulties to enhance the service users care. As a team we are passionate about development and providing the best possible care for our service users.

The post holder will participate in multi-disciplinary/ multi-agency working within the IST and with Key partners and contribute to the design of individually tailored services for adult with learning disabilities and additional mental illness/challenging behaviour.
Developing of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans, Developing of service users skills to support PBS. To undertake Sensory assessments give specialist input in to accommodation using, the Safe Home Environment Assessment (SHEA) is designed to help identify risk behaviours or individual preferences that may need to be considered in the physical environment.

The successful candidate will participate in the delivery of a specialist LD Occupational Therapy under the guidance of the lead Occupational Therapist by managing a caseload of clients with complex learning disabilities.
To provide professional supervision to other staff /students as appropriate including appraisal and professional development particularly mandatory training.
As an autonomous practitioner to manage a specialist case load providing
assessment, identification, and treatment of the health needs of adults with a learning disability.
MDT working will include being involved in developing of Positive Behaviour support plans, sensory Assessments, using active support to support meaningful engagement, being part of developing working formulations and bespoke staff training
To undertake specialist OT assessments. i.e. Sensory Integration.
To use specialist skills and clinical reasoning to work with clients with a learning disability, whose health need relates to the effect of their learning disability upon their occupational performance, enabling the client in the areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure. In conjunction with the individual their family, paid carers and external agencies.

- BSc (Hons) Degree in OT / Diploma equivalent.
- Registration with HCPC

- Qualified Practice Placement Educator
- Additional clinical training relevant to specialism
Experience

- Experience of organising and chairing meetings

- Experience in providing clinical supervision
