Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner to join the CPFT Podiatry Service. The base and locality are flexible to applicant, our core bases: Oak Tree Centre, Huntingdon; Doddington Community Hospital, March; Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely; North Cambs. Hospital, Wisbech; City Care Centre, Peterborough; Chesterton Medical Centre, Cambridge.
Base location for these roles will be East Cambs & Fenland, Huntingdon or Cambridge
The post-holder will work predominantly in their locality but will be required to support the county wide service as needed.
The position is varied in nature working alongside our different Specialist and Advanced Podiatrists in a variety of clinic settings, alongside independent clinics. The candidate will be supported to complete an internal competency programme to develop their skills and knowledge in each area of their role.
This post is open to qualified footcare assistants and current Podiatric Assistant Practitioners or to those new to the field.
Where a candidate is not already qualified for this position, we can offer the post as a Band 3 training position and will support you through the training competencies. On successful completion of the competencies you will then be promoted to Band 4.
Due to the nature of the role being within community healthcare the applicant must have access to a car and be able to drive for work.
Main duties of the job
To be part of a highly motivated team, the post holder will provide a range of duties including the management of a caseload providing nail care and foot care treatment and education in community clinics to a wide range of patients identified by Podiatrists as suitable.
Providing clinical assistance to the Advanced Podiatrists for patients with active diabetic foot problems including redressing and applications of casts under supervision from the Advanced Podiatrists.
Providing clinical assistance and administrative support to the Specialist Podiatrists in nail surgery clinics and triage clinics. Assisting with stock management and stock ordering. Undertaking administrative tasks as required to support patient care and service delivery.
The post holder will be mentored by a Podiatrist through the completion of internal competencies that cover all aspects of the job role, including; footcare, debridement, wound management, casting, nail surgery assisting, triage.
The post holder will work both in support roles and independently in a range of clinic types; Nail Surgery Assisting, Feet Focus footcare clinics, Triage clinic, Casting clinic, Assistant Practitioner Wound Clinics. These clinics are held in specialist hubs across the county and the Assistant will need to travel regularly to support these clinics. Travel mileage expenses outside of base can be claimed to support this travel.

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. To complete all Assistant Practitioner clinical competencies required for the role; footcare, debridement, casting, wound management, triage, nail surgery assisting.

To provide foot care treatment to a designated patient group as determined by a senior podiatrist.

To work within a variety of clinical settings including multi and single chair community and hospital clinics in both in and outpatient settings across the county, where required.

To undertake patient screening, prepare patients for treatment by the podiatrist, assist under the direction of the podiatrist in minor nail surgery and perform and record appropriate diagnostic tests.

To work alongside the Podiatrists in the management and treatment of active diabetic foot problems including updating records, taking down dressings, redressing, application of casts where directed and administrative support for ordering investigations.

To work within the Podiatry team, assisting in podiatry care plans and responsible for aspects involved in the running of the service including stock ordering and audit.

To provide any required appropriate administrative duties including completion of clinical record, clinical monitoring and ordering of stock and supplies.

Education /Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good general education
- Must have a recognised Podiatry Assistant Certificate / qualification or in Foot Care (Must be attained within 12 months) and/or Formal technical qualification, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
- Equivalent skills acquired through work experience.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a therapy assistant role

- Previous experience in healthcare setting with regular patient contact
- Experience of managing a caseload following care plan
- Experience of supervising staff

- Experience of Wound care treatment planning and management
