We are excited to offer an exceptional secondment opportunity for an experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse position on Maple Ward.
Maple Ward is dedicated to the care of older adults, providing treatment for individuals aged 65 and above who require admission. The Ward is divided into two specialised units:
- Maple 1: An 8-bed unit specifically for the assessment and treatment of patients who live with the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.
- Maple 2: A 14-bed unit for patients with functional mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, Bipolar, anxiety, personal disorder, depression and more.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for identifying and contributing to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff, and ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation. They will ensure that effective communication pathways exist, and that they act within their sphere of responsibility, managing the shift in the absence of the Ward Manager or the designated deputy.
Additionally, you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for identified service users, acting as a nurse for individuals with complex and challenging needs.
As a key member of the team, you will deliver high-quality, individualised, holistic, and evidence-based nursing care using the nursing process. You will also play a vital role as a link between patients, carers, relatives, and therapists, ensuring a consistent focus on positive patient outcomes.

Clinical / Service Specific
- To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the evidence-based care required, including health promotion for a named service user/group ensuring it meets Trust timescales.
- To participate in the setting of quality standards, including the monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy
- To ensure the post holder understands and meets their professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach
- To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 are observed, adhered to and implemented.
- To promote carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision. To encourage recovery, discovery and independence, considering risk assessment and management
- To establish therapeutic relationships with service users, and the implementation of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Councils professional code of conduct.
