Are you a dedicated and compassionate Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in Nuclear Medicine?

We are seeking a motivated colleague to join our forward-thinking Cardiology and Radiology Services at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of cardiovascular care and imaging across our evolving services while providing the highest standard of care to the local population.

Based at Peterborough City Hospital, you will deliver exceptional, patient-centred care, lead the MIBI service, and contribute to both inpatient and outpatient services. You will also have the opportunity to participate in exciting clinical research, contribute to teaching and training, and assume leadership responsibilities within the Cardiology and Radiology teams.

You will work alongside a team of highly skilled professionals, including consultants, cardiac physiologists, radiographers, and specialist nurses.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Deliver exceptional, patient-centred care, driving innovation and excellence in cardiology and cardiac imaging.
  • Contribute to general cardiology services, including outpatient clinics and inpatient ward work.
  • Lead and deliver a MIBI service.
  • The department actively participates in clinical trials such as Galactic, ETNA, and the Recovery trial during Covid-19. You will have the opportunity to engage in both commercial and non-commercial clinical trials to advance medical knowledge and patient care.
  • Take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for students from Leicester and Cambridge Universities, as well as Senior House Officers and MRCP candidates.
  • Share responsibility for the education and training of 3 Specialist Registrars in Cardiology as part of the Eastern Deanery rotation.
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) through study leave, courses, and other educational activities.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, including regular audits, feedback meetings, and reviews of adverse events/complaints.
  • Contribute to maintaining a culture of learning, patient safety, and quality improvement within the Trust.

Audit

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of basic principles of Audit, evidence based practice and QIP

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching medical students, doctors in training and other AHPs
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in organising educational activities

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Show engagement with clinical governance and have open approach to learning from mistakes
  • Show evidence of situational awareness and good decision making
  • Evidence of making change in practice for patient good

Clinical Expertise in Speciality/ sub-speciality

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of experience in cardiology
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for independent and expert opinion
  • Demonstrate an interest and commitment to the speciality

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or qualification at an equivalent level
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • FRCR/FRCP or equivalent qualification
  • For CMR the requirements are Level 3 SCMR/EACVI accreditation.
  • At least 12 months of documented experience of independent cardiac reporting is also required
  • For CT Level 2 BSCI/SCCT or above.
  • For MIBI requirement is ARSAC licence holder
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate academic degree
  • A specialist interest to be agreed to complement those of current staff.
  • Research projects relating to speciality
  • Publications in recognised Radiology/Cardiology journals

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
