Main duties of the job

As a registered children's nurse, you will focus on providing comprehensive, high-quality paediatric medical and surgical care to our patients within the Amazon ward & Jungle Assessment Unit. You will use knowledge & resources effectively & responsibly to enhance the service & actively engage in the development of the service.

The Amazon Ward is a 30-bed ward with 12 en-suite cubicles, a 2-bed fully equipped HDU area, and 4-bed bays. Furthermore, we have an 8-bed day surgery/day care unit. Our general paediatric unit provides care to children aged between 0 and 18 years, depending on their medical condition. We have a busy day surgery area within the unit and receive up to 12 surgical patients per day.

Our Jungle paediatric assessment unit is an 11-bed paediatric assessment unit adjacent to the ward, where GPs and other health professionals can refer into for admissions and/or assessment. Additionally, we can take patients on their journey from the Emergency Department. 

When the services are required, you shall rotate through other units to facilitate patient care.

Similarly, it is expected of you to undertake a rotation to Hinchingbrooke Hospital's Children Wards for a maximum of three months per year.
